Freewrite Smart Typewriter : Do I Like It?

When I made this Freewrite update video I had, had my Freewrite Smart Typewriter for a few months and wanted to share a few thoughts on how it has been working for me.

Why Did I Choose Freewrite?
I work with authors on keeping their world/story/characters consistent. I look at the details and big picture for conflicting information. I have been a typewriter/pen & paper user and this is just not efficient for the modern author. They need a digital copy emailed and sometimes quickly. The Freewrite device is a compromise between the medium I like and work best with, and the digital age.

How Have I been Using the Freewrite?
I have been using the document feature (in a folder) to keep track of each character, and main event in the story timeline I’m currently working on. The timeline consists of thousands of years and a mass amount of characters. This has been exactly what I need to keep it all straight. (I will probably need a chart of the events and characters at some point, but for right now, this is great.) I’ve also been using this to work on character dialogue. Finding the different characters way of talking and such. I haven’t connected the Freewrite to wi-fi yet. I haven’t uploaded any content yet, but will be doing so in the future.

Do I Like the Freewrite?
I LOVE the Freewrite! The afternoon I received it, I started typing and solved about 30% of the world-building issues that had been plaguing me for a month. I get so much done when I take the time to sit and write with this device. My ideas flow more easily. It is a similar experience to using a typewriter, mentally and physically. It is so portable. I drag it all over the place! I probably need to catalogue all of the different spots I use it! The battery lasts about a week of using it everyday for me. I usually charge every three days or so just to keep the battery full, but I feel comfortable letting it go longer. I love the e-ink screen! It is so much easier on my eyes than a laptop screen. I can use it in direct sunlight with no issue as well which is such a plus when you take it everywhere!

Is the Freewrite Worth the Price Tag?
The product itself is exactly what it claims to be. It is a distraction-free Smart Typewriter. It is for getting what is in your head in a digital format to be edited when you’re ready for the editing process. The technology is there, and the product seems to be quite solid. I would purchase again for my uses! I would definitely choose this over a laptop as a writer. That doesn’t mean you might not need a computer at some point depending on your process. But for writing, this wins for me.
It has been a few years and I still love the Freewrite. I have since purchased an additional 2 devices!
