How I Write : Dockside Freewrite & Fountain Pen

I’ve been spending too much time working on my laptop lately and was in dire need of a relaxing break! The weather has been growing chilly but the water here is still warm. It occurred to me that there may only be a few more weeks of warmer days, and decided I needed to get myself outside and enjoy it!

I grabbed my “Ink” Freewrite and matching Pilot Vanishing Point fountain pen headed to the water and spent the morning dockside.

This mornings writing was fleshing out a few elemental aspects and weapon functions for a client’s fantasy story. Something they understand (probably better than I do!) but are hung up on and need an outside perspective.

I was able to solve most of it as well as connect more motivation of characters in the story. Fantasy can have such intricate depth when worldbuilding and it is so easy to get too caught up in the details! Taking a moment for basic reflection and outside perspective is incredibly helpful!

When I’m working on worldbuilding I keep a notebook and my Freewrite handy. Sometimes I need to draw out an idea and other times I need to be able to get something down as quickly as possible. Having both allows me to be prepared for anything my brain wants to throw out! This morning, I even brought an entire bottle of Noodler’s Ink “Dark Matter” just in case I ran out of ink!

Aside from the light purple Moleskine notebook, I was rocking the blacked out look today!

I enjoyed my peaceful morning by the water and am making a promise to myself to work outside more often!
