Without further ado…
Big Catch
This quilt was inspired by the bunkers (menhaden) fish watermen hope to bring in by the boatload.
Sailors Delight
“Red sky in the morning sailors take warning, red sky at night, sailors delight.”
Fisherman’s Daughter
A new twist on a traditional quilt block, “Fisherman’s Daughter” features four swimming fish.
Ice Cubes
Shoveling ice is a repetitive necessity to keeping newly caught fish fresh. This quilt’s design is reflective of the many ice cubes I shoveled growing up.
Bait Dock
Inspired by the historic Reedville Steamboat Wharf. This quilt pays homage to the wharf’s red exterior. I spent most of my summertime there fishing, shedding softcrabs, shoveling ice, and grinding chum.
Great Wicomico Lighthouse
The Great Wicomico Lighthouse though no longer in commission, can still be seen entering or exiting Cockrell’s Creek, in Reedville, Virginia.
Fish Net
Inspired by the many different types of fish net used in the Chesapeake Bay.
Crab Floats
I grew up shedding softcrabs in wooden floats in the creek behind my house. This quilt is reminiscent of the faded red of those floats in the creek water.
Crabpots
I crabbed with many different colored crabpots growing up but the yellow and red pots always caught the most crabs! This quilt features a strippy pieced design and crabpot wire quilting.
Early Morning Stars
Waking up early in the morning to fish pound nets allowed for the privilege of seeing the stars at their most beautiful. I designed this quilt to reflect their glow.
The Jetties
Inspired by the dark swirling waters and sharp rocks of The Jetties. This quilt design features half-square triangles and a sashing setting.
Chum
I ground a lot of chum growing up. It was a messy job but to get the good fish you have to have good, fresh chum! This quilt is made from leftover fabric scraps.
Harbor Fest
A mini quilt design with a 4-patch design inspired by boats tying up and enjoying a weekend on the water.
Chesapeake Bay
This quilt features the life in the Chesapeake Bay’s waters with all-manner of appliqued local creatures living in its currents.
4th on Main
Inspired by Reedville’s Fourth of July bash!
Crabpot Buoys
Crabpot buoys float to mark your crabpot in the water. Different colors are used by each crabber to signify their pots. I used bright red fabrics in this quilt to reflect my own buoys.
Mary Ruth
“Mary Ruth” is a mini quilt named after my great-grandmother. As a little girl she came over from Smith Island, moving to Sunnybank, in Reedville.
